Differences are probably due to
- fixed snow mask (ex. western Canada)
- fixing the spectral snow (ex. Siberia)
- smoothed orography (ex. Andes)
- improved desert albedo (ex. Sahara?)
- changed cloud cover (ex. Sahara desert?, Arctic?)
