Brad Pugh was hired by the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) in August 1999. During his early career at CPC, he worked at the Joint Agricultural Weather Facility (JAWF), a collaboration between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In this role, he provided climate and weather support to the USDA and helped publish the Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin. In addition to his continued work with JAWF, his forecasting duties include the U.S. Hazards Assessment, 6-10/8-14 Day forecasts, and the U.S. Seasonal Drought Outlook. He maintains a historic record of Heidke skill scores for the 6-10 Day forecasts. He also participates in the monitoring of the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) and an associated global weather hazards forecast.
In 2001, the DoD's Air Force recognized his efforts in developing the first-ever Afghanistan weather hazards and meeting an important Air Force need. Initially, the product supported the critical needs of the Air Force by providing week-2 weather guidance in southwest Asia. However, the product has evolved to aid humanitarian efforts for the Famine Early Warning System Network (FEWS-NET) of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The product facilitates decision-making for humanitarian relief and long-term planning.
Brad Pugh received a B.S. degree in Meteorology from the Florida State University in 1996 and a M.S. in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma in 1999.
